Applications are accepted year-round and reviewed regularly, but it could be some time before employment would commence. Only successful applicants will be contacted.

Self-Assessment CD

Local 894 has purchased four copies of the 2007 version of the easy-to-use CD "Electricians Self-Assessment Tool" (ESAT). This version is based on the 2006 Canadian Electrical Code. These CDs are available for loan to apprentices who are preparing to write their C of Q. A $50.00 deposit is required and will be refunded when the CD is returned. Apprentice Incentive Grant

Dollar signThe Apprentice Incentive Grant (AIG) is a new taxable cash grant of $1000 per year available to registered apprentices once they have successfully completed their first or second year of an apprenticeship program in one of the Red Seal trades. The AIG is meant to help cover some of the tuition, travel and tool costs, and to encourage apprentices to complete their apprenticeship program. The AIG applies to apprentices finishing their first or second terms after January 1, 2007. The office has mailed all qualifying apprentices an application package.

Electrician Math

According to the website, "Electrician Math is a website which presents all electrical calculations likely to be encountered by an electrician in classes, on the job, and on electrician examinations. From calculator practice to commercial service calculations, every electrician can benefit from the content of this electrical math website by David Ullian Larson."

"An electrical apprentice, journeyman, master, and electrical inspector will find help here to improve calculations technique. Formulas are explained. Algebra is included. Conversion and derivation of formulas is a large part of this presentation. Story problems and grid worksheets are backed up with audio support. Mathematics is used by electricians every day. This website established a comprehensive coverage of each topic. Several thousand practice calculations are provided."

Skills Competition 2006

Skills 1

The Ontario Technological Skills Competition was held in Kitchener, Ontario on May 1st, 2nd & 3rd, 2006. Fifth term apprentice Ron Samis represented Local 894, and performed extremely well in the competition. Congratulations!
