In response to requests from our members, Local 894 has purchased a computer-based
Motor Control training program. The software is by New Standard Institute and may be previewed on
their Web site.
The software comes loaded on a laptop which may be used at the Office, or borrowed for a period of 3 weeks upon
payment of a $100.00 deposit and signing a waiver. Please contact the Office for more information.
Night school and/or all additional courses must be pre-approved by the Executive Board to be eligible for reimbursement of course fees. You may submit your request to the Executive Board via . Reimbursement of course fees is available only to active Local 894 members. Local 894 will not pay for the Master Electrician course or the examination fee.

training program on Saturday, May 15th &
Sunday, May 16th, and again on Friday, May 28th & Saturday, May 29th, 2010, at the Union Office.
This course includes an Introduction to Photovoltaic Systems,
Fundamentals of Solar Radiation, Sun-Earth Relationships, Solar Radiation Data Measurements, Site Surveys and
Planning, Photovoltaic Systems and Components, Fundamentals of Photovoltaic Design, and more. A hands-on
practical component is included.

IBEW First District is proud to announce that the popular and highly utilized IBEW online training program is available
for another 3 year term. The training through VUBIZ is available to our members and their friends and families
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
VUBIZ now offers more than 200 training courses, 154 in English and 46 in French. The new courses include Finance,
Health & Safety, and Human Resources.
To start
your learning experience, access the Vubiz Web-site. Every
time you sign on, you will need to enter your membership card number and a password. Call or
Tammy at the office for
the password. The first time that you sign on, you will need to enter a little extra information to get set up.
Local 894 has purchased copies of the 2009 version of the easy-to-use CD "Electricians Self-Assessment Tool" (ESAT).
This version is based on the 2009 Canadian Electrical Code. These CDs are available for loan to apprentices who are
preparing to write their C of Q. A $50.00 deposit is required and will be refunded when the CD is returned.
The Education Committee has purchased some Audiobooks (CD’s) for the Local 894 Library that members may borrow, no charge, by signing them out.

The Construction Safety Association of Ontario delivers a wide range of health and safety training developed by
and for the construction industry. IBEW Local 894 is a member of the CSAO, making most of the basic training
programs available free of charge to our members. Have a look at CSAO's
training schedule. Most programs
are offered at their Toronto location. However, many programs are also available through
computer-based training or
home study.
Remember to keep the office informed of any training programs you complete so
that your records can be kept current.

The Fire Alarm Technology Program consists of five Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) approved courses, as follows:
Electricians who obtained their licence after 1991 may be exempt from Modules
2, 3 and 4. Applications for exemptions must be submitted to the CFAA directly. If you wish to participate in these
programs, you are responsible for paying the tuition fees up front. Reimbursement from the Education Fund may be
available provided that you submit your request to the Executive Board in writing prior to the start of the course.

A four-week series of Saturday morning training courses for first, second and third term apprentices finished on February 28, 2009. Curriculum included conduit bending, ropes & rigging, and circuit wiring. Congratulations to all graduates! Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB)
All Position
(Flat/Horizontal/Vertical Up/Overhead) Certification. All requests for this training must be submitted in writing to the
prior to enrolling. Tuition expenses will be reimbursed once your ticket has been
