In Memory

With much regret I inform the membership of the sudden passing of Local 894 brother and retiree James L. (Jimmy) Vernon on March 10, 2008 in his 73rd year. Brother Vernon became a member of Local 894 in 1956 and retired in July 1994. Brother Vernon will be missed by all who knew him and had the opportunity to work with him. We send our sincere condolences to his family, relatives and friends.

Results of March 27/08 Vote: re: Allocation of May 1st Wage Increase

1. Increase RRSP contributions $1.00 per hour. Motion Passed
81 Accept; 57 Reject; Total 138

2. Increase Stabilization contributions $0.50 per hour. Motion Rejected

3. Increase IBEW/EPCO dues $0.06 per hour (EPSCA sites only) Motion Passed

We extend our thanks to Judge Bob Taylor and his assistants Reg Denny and Roy Halverson for conducting a well managed secret ballot vote. The new wage spreadsheets should be available early next week.

Steward’s Course

Friday, April 25, 2008 8:00 a.m. ‘til 4:30 p.m. at Local 894 facilities
Maximum 15 members per course. Please call office to register. Coffee, bottled water, soft drinks and pizza will be provided for lunch.

Education Committee Report

Raye West, chairman of the Education Committee, reports the first conduit bending and ropes and rigging courses held on Saturday, March 15th were a success with twenty (20) 1st term apprentices attending. The next course is Saturday, April 5th, 8 a.m. ‘til noon.

The Committee has requested anyone interested in teaching the Saturday mornings conduit bending and ropes and rigging courses to please contact Raye West or leave your name at the office. The Committee is also reminding everyone who has received certificates in training/courses at night school etc. to please provide the office with that information to allow a photo copy to be placed in their file and keep our records updated. The Committee is also asking anyone who has a copy of the old IBEW Local 894 apprentice log book to please advise in order to assist the Committee in producing a new, updated apprentice log book.

The next Education Committee meeting is Tuesday, April 8, 2008, 4:00 P.M.
