Absenteeism is the biggest issue with contractors and clients and not just within the IBEW but all trades all across North America. It is commonly understood that sometimes individuals must take time off work to take care of personal business and that is not the problem. The Ontario Labour Relations Board is very sympathetic to the employers/contractors on this issue and very seldom, if ever, hands down a decision that favours an employee who files a grievance for being terminated for chronic absenteeism.
The Local 894 Golf Tournament was a great success. The weather couldn’t have been better for the 96 players that turned out. Tee off was on time at 8:30 A.M. as was the steak dinner at 2:00 P.M. The course at Wolf Run Golf Club was in excellent condition, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day. On behalf of all the players I sincerely thank Gerry Scratch, Paul Robitaille, Adam Graham, Scott Stainton, Geoff Terrett and Tammy for all the time and effort they put into organizing this tournament. The winning foursome was Stan Irvine, Allan Irvine, Derrick Jones and Ed McLean with a score of 62 (-10). Winner of the longest drive for the ladies was Joanne Stewart and the winner of the men’s longest drive was Allan Irvine. Lynne Scratch was the winner of the draw for the table saw. We take this opportunity to thank all the sponsors for their generous donations to the prize table which helped to make the tournament the great success it was. We also thank all the players who turned out and hope to see everyone again next year, possibly at the same place, Wolf Run Golf Club.
